Title: General Maintenance Worker

Department: Campus Safety/Services

Report To: Mr. Horace Dandridge, Director of Campus Safety/Services

Classification: Part-Time, Non-exempt (30 hours per week)

Candidate must submit hourly rate or salary requirement

Summary

The person would be under general supervision, performing a variety of work in the general maintenance department. Responsibilities include repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Repair of buildings and grounds at various facilities
  • Experience in the area of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, glazier, masonry, painting, tasks repairs
  • Be able to treat structures such as floors, showers, sinks, walls, roofs, and carpets
  • Perform minor troubleshooting, repairs and adjustments of locks on doors, cabinets, desks, closets
  • Repair door hinges, clean plugged key slots, change filters on heating and ventilation
  • Repair air condition units, service appliances, kitchen and emergency equipment, hook up appliances, report mechanical malfunctions to appropriate party for action
  • Assist in moving furniture and equipment at various facilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work site

Qualifications

  • Prefer to have experience in all areas above, however, minimum experience in the following areas is required: Plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling, ground maintenance
  • Be familiar with standard practices, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities
  • Knowledgeable of safety practices and procedures related to the building trades
  • Requires basic math skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively in oral and written forms, maintain work logs, establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments.
  • Must be in possession of a valid State of Michigan driver’s license
  • A willingness to work outside in inclement weather
  • Must be able to work flexible hours
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
